If you’ve followed my blog, you’ve read HERE about our journey “with” Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace University. At first it was very difficult since we weren’t married yet, had separate bills, separate bank accounts, new jobs, etc. Now, after two months of marriage, we are finally becoming familiar with OUR bills, OUR bank account, and OUR new income. We’ve been doing a very good job about setting up a budget each month and sticking to it, BUT of course you always have that one thing each month that throws it off a little bit. :)
I am also very happy to say, that we are on our way to becoming DEBT FREE!! We sat down and did some number crunching, and with the money ABOVE AND BEYOND what we need for our monthly bills and our emergency fund, we were able to write out a check for the full amount and pay off our Debt #1!! And I’m not gonna lie, it felt SO good!! Granted, yes we still have a few more debts to go before we are debt free (and then work on paying off the house early – that is if we don’t move before then), but at least we are headed in the right direction! Now that we have one paid off, it gives us ambition to do the same with the others. Our goal is to be DEBT FREE (except the house) in the next few years!
I have to give a shout out to my co-worker and her husband (the couple that paid for us to go through Financial Peace). Right after the new year, their family drove down to Tennessee to scream from the lobby of Dave Ramsey’s studio, “WE’RE DEBT FREE!!!” That’s right, they are COMPLETELY debt free, including the HOUSE! How cool is that!? They are in their 30’s, with two kids (10 and 8). AND they’re debt free! I can’t even fathom being completely debt free by that age!! Think of all the extra money you would have each month because you aren’t paying a mortgage? You aren’t paying car loans? You aren’t paying student loans? CRAZY!!
We’ve set our goals high, and we’re “gazelle intense” about achieving them!! :)
